Tele Auction

This auction direct from Andy himself…

Ok, I’m not exactly sure if this will work. If it crashes and burns, we’ll call it a foul and try it again on ebay. But hopefully this will work.

I’m thinking, we can do it like a silent auction. I’ll post a starting price, let’s say $200, and just leave comments for what you’d pay. Monday night at 8 PM Central, the highest bidder will have it.

Here’s the skinny on the guitar. It’s a late 90’s Made-in-Mexico ‘72 Thinline Reissue. A lot of players I know use these guitars because they’re lightweight, sound great, but you don’t have to be scared about ruining a vintage collector’s piece. Just a great guitar to have around.

This has an F-hole, and is what they call semi-hollow, so it has a bit more sustain and round tone. The humbuckers are nice. Tele’s are usually too bright for my taste. That’s the sound of them and I dig that, but having humbuckers gives it a little more warmth, more usable. It’s not in the Les Paul world, but it’s somewhere in between.

It has a one-piece maple neck/fretboard which feels really great.

This guitar was my main live guitar for a few years. I used it all over the “Share the Well” record. It’s the guitar you hear on ‘Mother India’ and ‘I Did Not Catch Her Name’.

It’s also the main guitar on the “company of angels 2″ record, but that might make the guitar worth less so I won’t go into that.

On my records it’s the main guitar on “Following the Blind” and “New Beginning”.

I used it live with Caedmon’s mainly, and then with Derek Webb on the rock songs. If I keep talking about this I’ll never sell it, so I’ll stop. But I’m really excited to do it all here on my website so I know it will sort of stay in the family.

The only other condition is that if the winner comes to see a show I’m playing, they have to bring this guitar so I can play it again that night. Let me know ahead of time and I’ll get you into the show.

Ok, Bidding starts at $200 and we’ll end Monday at 8 PM Central. Leave your bids (or questions) as comments.

Oh, and it has a hard case and I’ll throw in some strings and give it a set-up before I send it out.

270 is my final offer haha

  10. Andrew,

Does it have the S1 pickup switching? As in, you can punch the tone knob and put the pickups out of phase?

I’m in the market for a tele, so I might have to make a bid.

  11. I guess I’m in the telemarket.

  12. randy Nov 2nd 2007

    ba dum ching

  13. Telemarket. I love it. No, it doesn’t have the S1 system, just your typical tone and volume. Three-way pickup selector. Thank you all!

  14. Thank you! I’m here all night.

  15. Gabe Aguilar Nov 2nd 2007

    Andrew,
Just a quick question about the guitar. Have you made any modifications to the guitar, or is it pretty much just stock? Just wondering.
-Gabe Aguilar (your current highest bidder)

  16. Mark Salvesen Nov 2nd 2007

    $350…for real though!

  17. I raised the pickups a bit, but they’re stock (if it ain’t broke…) and I added strap locks. That’s about it.

  18. Josh Stockment Nov 2nd 2007

How soon would you be shipping said guitar?

  19. as soon as its paid for, I guess.

  20. Andrew James (Houston) Nov 4th 2007

how soon are you wanting payment??

  21. ok, 100 bucks. final offer.

  22. All right. I headed down to a local guitar shop and tried this one out, and I like what I heard.

    My bid: $525.

My 30th birthday was Friday, so maybe this’ll help me cling to my youth.

  23. Does the winner pay shipping? That’s typical on Ebay, so I just wanted to make sure…

  24. Ah, I’ll pay for shipping, ground. If you want it any faster you can pay for whatever that would add. Thanks!

  25. Ok, here we go. $550 is my bid.
    I really want this guitar.

  26. So do I!

    $575.

  27. Sorry I feel like I am being mean, I am not used to auctions. I bid 600.

  28. Hmm.

    $610.

I can’t go much higher, so Gabe, if you want it, you’ll probably get it! It would just be so cool to say my first electric used to be Andrew Osenga’s! :-)

  29. 625 is my bid

  30. Enjoy the guitar, man.

  31. Thanks Bret. Well played. I appreciate the tact..

  32. Josh Stockment Nov 5th 2007

this auction has inspired me to sell off half my pedalboard to get a ’72 tele [long been my fav electric guitar]…it’s amazing what losing an auction will motivate you to do

  33. So Andrew. Where do we go from here?

  34. I hereby declare this auction closed. (Of course, Osenga can say otherwise if he wants to.)

    Thanks to all who participated!
