Letters to the Editor V1 CD song list

I’ve just gotten the scoop from XXXX XXXXXX (a reliable source) on Andy’s final selection for the final 4 songs to go on the Letters to the Editor V1 / AO sampler CD. These have been highly debated over on Andy’s blog, and this is the outcome.

Andy has also expressed his appreciation for so many fans giving so much input in such a timely manner.

So, without further ado…

  1. wanted
  2. the ball game
  3. you leave no shadow
  4. Anna and the aliens
  5. the blessing curse
  6. swing wide the glimmering gates
  7. White Dove
  8. Kara
  9. High School Band
  10. Early in the Morning

My source tells me that the inclusion of High School Band over New Mexico was “highly debated”.

What do you think?

  1. High School Band is the definitive Andy O song to me. I think it should be a hidden track on every album he cuts.

  2. You put in “High School Band” here because he’s far more likely to play it at a show than he is to play “New Mexico”.

That’s not to say that he shouldn’t play “New Mexico” more often, but that requires him putting together a guitar-based version that he likes.

  3. You put in “High School Band” here because he’s far more likely to play it at a show than he is to play “New Mexico”.

See, Geof, I’d agree with you if it were an album that he’s trying to sell. But these are giveaways! Will people really come up to the table and say “eh, no thanks, don’t want that free CD because it doesn’t have High School Band on it”?

  4. In case anyone’s interested (I thought it was interesting), here are the top 20 songs of AO’s on rhapsody (in order of most played first):
    1. Kara
    2. Too Far to Walk
    3. Marilyn
    4. Photograph
    5. New Mexico
    6. House of Mirrors
    7. All the Wrong Reasons
    8. New Mexico (late-night piano version)
    9. When Will I Run
    10. Vegas
    11. Kankakee
    12. Farmer’s Wife
    13. The Priest and the Iron Rain
    14. After the Garden
    15. In Gym Class in High School
    16. Early in the Morning
    17. New Beginning
    18. Trying to Get This Right
    19. Just a Kid
    20. Dance Away the City

HSB didn’t even make the top 20…

  5. That’s a fascinating list, Katherine.

  6. Yeah, but you aNy smething that they’ve heard, too. They may want a copy of a song they know. I know when I buy a CD at a show that I look for one with songs I know if I have choices. That may still extend into giveaways.

  7. Just to balance it out, here’s the top 15 from itunes:

    1. Kara
    2. EITM
    3. Photograph
    4. High School Band
    5. HSB (acoustic version)

    12. New Mexico
    13. We Were So Sure We Would Change the World
    14. New Beginning
    15. New Mexico (late-night piano version)

  8. Here’s the top plays from last.fm. The sample size seems a little low to me, so I don’t put a lot of faith in these numbers.

    1 Wanted
2 Swing Wide the Glimmering Gates
    3 The Ball Game
    4 The Blessing Curse
    5 You Leave No Shadow
    6 Anna and the Aliens
    7 After the Garden
    8 Kara
    9 Early in the Morning
    10 Photograph
    11 White Dove
    12 I Miss Those Days
13 We Were Sure We Would Change the World
    14 House of Mirrors
    15 Santa Barbara
    16 New Beginning
    17 The High School Band
    18 Marilyn
    19 When Will I Run
    20 Dance Away The City

  9. OK, I have no idea how that last.fm Top 100 Chart for AO is calculated, because I, personally, have more plays (60) of House of Mirrors than last.fm has listed for AO in total. If that’s the Top 100 over the past year or something, then it should at least say so… and would help explain why the data seems skewed.

  10. For the record, I’m not drunk in comment 6 … just typing on my iPhone from a meeting. Heh.

As for the Last.FM chart, Chris, it’s number of users who’ve played that track, not number of plays.

  11. what is last.fm?

cool to see some of the L2TE high up on the list…

  12. As for the Last.FM chart, Chris, it’s number of users who’ve played that track, not number of plays.

Oh, that makes more sense. Odd, though. I’d sure like the option to see total # of plays.

    what is last.fm?

Bo, go check it out: last.fm. You install a little plugin into iTunes or Windows Media Player and it will capture data on what you listen to and then does the whole social networking thing with it. Pretty cool.

  13. cool…thanks, CH….sounds great.

  14. Oh, that makes more sense. Odd, though. I’d sure like the option to see total # of plays.

But look at it from their end: that 100 subscribers play it ALL THE TIME isn’t as important as 1000 people listening to it some.

  15. totally thought you were smething drunk in number 6, geof…
